Jaquell J`vonte Chatman departed this life on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was amazingly charming, comical, and possessed the most infectious smile. Anyone who had the favor to know him had their life significantly brightened. He was protective of those he loved and delighted in helping others. Jaquell was born on September 6, 1999, in Sumter, to parents, Elaine Johnson-Brown and the late Willie Chatman. Early in age, he accepted Christ into his life and became a member of Lagree AME Church in Sumter, where he proudly served as a member of the usher board. Jaquell was an avid lover of basketball. Throughout his childhood he was afforded to be a member of several recreation basketball teams, an AAU squad, and the Crestwood varsity basketball team. He attended the public schools of Sumter County where he graduated from Crestwood High School, Class of 2018. As an adult Jaquell remained well employed in various positions. He had a love of driving and enjoyed traveling across the country as a carrier. Most recently he was dually employed as a fork-lift driver for Republic Services, and part-time as a stocker at Food Lion. Jaquell leaves to cherish his beautiful memories: a loving mother, Elaine Johnson-Brown (Jonathan) of Sumter; two brothers, Saron Nickens and Javin Chatman both of Sumter; four sisters, Javiya Chatman, Jasani Chatman, Jada Benjamin, and Abrielle Cato all of Sumter; maternal grandparents, Elease Johnson of Sumter, and William Johnson (Octavia) of Silver; paternal grandparents, Evelyn Chatman and Willie Wilson both of Sumter; three uncles, Jason Johnson (Chanice), Deron Chatman and Greg Bennett (Denise) all of Sumter; two aunts, Angela Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Kyana Coleman of Sumter; three dear cousins, Javette Harden and Micah Harden both of Atlanta, GA, and Brecken Johnson of Sumter; a special godmother, Emma Washington of Brooklyn, NY and a host of extended aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 4440 Manigault Street, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, February 10, 2024 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams, officiating. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 2561 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.
