Shani Nzinga Williams Thompson born on March 17, 1981 in Columbia, SC. She died on December 1, 2023, at the age of 42. She was the mother of two sons, Washan Rashid Clayton and Zion Ali Williams. She was the beloved daughter of Drs. Brenda and Joseph Williams of Sumter and granddaughter of Johnnie Mae Chapman and Frederick Martin Chapman of Savannah, GA and Josie Mae Williams and Curtis Purnell Williams of Cataula, GA. She 1eaves behind two sisters, Jamila Nanyamka Williams and Aisha Ngosi Williams and host of other relatives and friends. Shani graduated from the Sumter County Career Center’s Health Occupation School in 1999. In 2004, she obtained an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing from Central Carolina. She worked in Charleston at MUSC, Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC at Prisma Health and later worked in the OR as a circulating nurse at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for 10 years. She last worked as the Director of Nursing at the Covenant Place Nursing Facility, Sumter, SC. Shani was the life of the party and loved family gatherings. She always wanted to be a nurse and loved serving people. Even during her rough times, she would always come out smiling, never afraid of voicing her opinions and standing up for right. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m., Thursday, December 7, 2023 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams, Officiating Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter. Funeral services and Burial will be private. The family only. The family is requesting that the public not attend and respect their privacy.
