Edward Gardner, 87, of Rembert, South Carolina, transitioned from this life on earth to his heavenly home, Wednesday, November 1, 2023. He was born to the late Deacon Robert and Sarah Gardner on May 11, 1936. He grew up in a Christian home and committed his life to Christ in the month of August 1966 at Rafting Creek Baptist Church. He was married to the late Nolia Porte Gardner. Mr. Gardner attended the public schools of Sumter, South Carolina. He was employed for several years at Becker Sand and Gravel in Rembert, South Carolina. He later was employed, served and retired as a security guard from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. Left to honor his life are two sons, Michael Gardner of Charlotte, North Carolina and Scott Wiley (Roxanne) of New York; one daughter, Annette Gardner Johnson (Robert) of Maryland; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Dinkins and Maggie Osborne; two brothers, Deacon Hampton Gardner (Esther) and Wesley Gardner (Marilyn); one brother-in-law, Charles Outen, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Gardner; a grandchild, Donte Broadnax; four brothers, Sammie, Johnny, Robert and Charlie and two sisters, Bernice and Emma. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation from 4:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. at the home, 5230 McDanield Road, Rembert. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert with the Rev. Melvin Mack, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of the services. The Funeral procession will leave the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
