Eula Lee Porcher (fondly known as ‘Butch’) was born on May 23, 1953 in Sumter. She was the fourth of six children born to the late Marion Moise Porcher and Martha Ann Abrams. She departed this life on September 18, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest sister, Martha Ann Porcher-Almamy; two younger brothers, Richard and Johnny Porcher, and two nieces, Monique Brown and Elizabeth Porcher. Eula attended Bates Middle School and Lincoln High School in Sumter. She moved to New York City in the late 70’s with her only son, Darrnell. During her stay in New York City, she worked various jobs until the late 90’s. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, friend and one of the BEST aunts we had. Eula loved a good card game and enjoyed trash talking as she slammed the cards on the table. “I beat you like I wanna” was one of her favorite lines to say. She moved to Virginia in the early 2000’s to help raise her great nieces and nephews. She worked a couple of jobs during her stay, Tyson Chicken plant and Manor Care assisted living facility. Eula, was very fond of family and enjoyed being a caregiver. During her stay in Virginia, she decided to accept Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in the name of Jesus at New Life Christian Ministries. She attended church there until she moved back to Sumter, S. C., her southern roots. She worked at the pigeon plant until her health started declining. Eula fought a good fight and stayed strong until it was timed to depart this life. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: an uncle, Aaron (Mabel) Abrams; two siblings, Jimmy Porcher and Eva Porcher; one son, Darrnell Lamar (Stephanie) Porcher; two grandchildren, Brianna and Darrnell Jr. Porcher; two nieces, Demetra Porcher, Linda Jamison; two nephews, Joseph Byam and Johnny Dorsey and a host of great and grand nieces, nephews, devoted cousins and loving friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, Palmetto Towers, 1150 South Pike West, #419, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 – 12:00 Noon in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. James E. Williams, Officiating, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 11:30 A. M. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell.
