Ethan T. Doby was born on January 31, 1969 to Reginald Doby and Ethel Jones Doby. He was raised in Brooklyn, New York in a loving home with his younger sister, Tenisha.. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at MUSC in Charleston. Ethan grew up in church and learned the Word of God through teaching and Sunday School lessons. While there he gained a love for music and played the drums well into his adult years. He learned to worship God through songs and praise and most importantly, he learned to hide God’s Word in his heart which caused him to be the great man he grew up to be. He attended Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, New York and later relocated to Sumter in 1997. Ethan was a hard worker and accomplished anything he set his mind to do. He was a great mechanic and loved fixing cars. He worked in several divisions of the manufacturing business for many years until his illness no longer allowed him to. In 2013, Ethan met his soon to be spouse, Marie and thy later married on April 23, 2016 surrounded by friends and family. He was a man of integrity with a genuine heart. He lived a happy life of simplicity, full of love and respect for others. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Marie Doby; his children, Traquay Robinson, Jaylon Gadson, Justin and Jasmine Doby; his mother, Ethel, Ethel Jones (Joseph); his father, Reginald Doby (Delores) sister, Tenisha Doby; stepsisters, Alicia Jones and Amber Wells; stepbrothers, Joseph Jones, Jr., Darryl McElveen and Hakim Wilson; three nieces, Takiyah, Territta and Tiasia Jones; great nephew and niece, Tristian Greene and Taylor Greene, a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, church family and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the family home, 706 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, 11:00 a. m. at St. Paul Holiness Church, 129 West Moore Street, Sumter, with the Elder Barrington Pierson, Senior Pastor, presiding and Bishop Reginald Doby, Eulogist. The procession will leave the family home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the St. Paul Holiness Church Cemetery, Martin Town Road, Sumter.
