Margaret Ely Wright peacefully departed this life on July 6, 2023 at her residence. Born May 28, 1935 in Sumter, she was the wife of the late Sammie Lee Wright and daughter of the late John Ely and Elizabeth Ely Watson. Margaret, also known as “Kit” and “Mama Kit”, attended the public schools of Sumter County. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Rafting Creek Baptist Church. Margaret retired from the Sumter County School District after many years of employment. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: five children, Shirley (Sam) Alston of Perth Amboy, NJ, Sandres Wright of the home, Carrie (Walter) Nathaniel of Sumter, Eddie James Wright of Irvington, NJ, Ronnie James Wright of Sumter; stepson, Herbert (Trina) Wiley of New Rochelle, NY; grandson, Ragan Wright of the home; daughter-in-law, Melanie Wright of Simpsonville, S. C.; six sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; twelve grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by two sons; two brothers; one sister and three aunts. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 8075 Ruggs Lake Road, Rembert. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 – 12:00 Noon at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert with the Rev. Melvin Mack, Pastor, The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 A. M. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 11:30 A. M. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
