Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

George Allen Nelson, son of Joe and Susan Bates Nelson, Jr., was born June 3, 1945 in Pinewood. He transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, December 5, 2022 in Sumter. George attended the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he joined New Hope Church. In his final weeks, George worshipped with St. John Holiness Church. George decided to follow in the footsteps of his father as a farmer. He was employed with Tindal Farms for nearly 51 years and retired in August 2016 where he later moved to Sumter. Those who knew George can attest that he was hardworking, generous and funny. He would often share stories about his father, the mule and a tractor. George leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, JoeAnn Nelson of Thomasville, NC; his brothers, Frank Nelson of St. Matthews, SC, Floyd and Rudy Nelson of Thomasville, NC and Elijah (Amanda) Nelson of Summerton, SC; his close friend, Nat Brown of Pinewood, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 p. m. on Friday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. John Holiness Church, 863 Weeks Street, Sumter, with Pastor Hilda James, Eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m.
