Mitchell C. Jackson departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Prisma Health Heart Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on November 9, 1953, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Isaac Colclough Jackson and Geneva Singleton Jackson. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.), and a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Class of 1971. He served in the United States Army, with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, and received an honorable discharge. He was later employed at Tuomey Hospital and worked in government services for 20 years at Shaw Air Force Base until his retirement. Mitchell was a kind and gentle person, had a sense of humor, and was always willing to tell a joke to anyone that was willing to listen. To cherish his memories, he leaves behind his mother of the home; a former spouse, Celestine C. Jackson; one daughter, Celena Jackson (Aaron) Moore; one grandchild, Alena Grace Moore, all of Sumter; one sister, Alma Jackson Harrison of the home; two nephews, Benjamin A. Harrison and Brandon W. (Lola) Harrison both of West Columbia, SC; three grand nieces, Brianna N. Harrison, Laila M. Harrison, and Mariah G. Harrison; two aunts, Amelia Prescott of Ocala, FL and Laura Singleton of Sumter; and a host of loving cousins, other relatives, and friends that are deeply grieved by his passing. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 690 Rainbow Drive, Sumter. Viewing will be from 1:30 p. m. until 6:00 p. m., Friday, in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA), 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, Moderator, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 10:15 a. m. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Yard Cemetery, Dalzell.
