Mr. Thomas Jackson Lowery, affectionately known as “Bubba”, was the son of the late Charlie Lowery, Sr. and Nettie Jackson Lowery. He was born in Sumter, on February 13, 1946. He was a lifetime member of Barnettsville Baptist Church in Bishopville. Mr. Lowery attend the public schools of Sumter County. A graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1964 and a 1968 graduate of Morris College. Mr. Lowery worked in many different capacities throughout his life serving his community. His career begun in Law enforcement at the Sumter City Police Department from 1968 to 1974. In 1974, he began his career with South Carolina Probation and Parole Services. Dedicating 29 years of service. Mr. Lowery was elected to Sumter City Council to represent Ward One in November 2002 and was serving his fifth term. He was elected as Mayor Pro Tem in November 2014 and was currently serving until his death. During his tenure on the Sumter City Council, he served on the Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments Board and The Sumter Urban Area Transportation Study (SUATS) Committee. After working several years for the State of South Carolina and retiring, Mr. Lowery decided to become an entrepreneur opening his own bail bonding company, Lowery’s Bail Bonding, working and servicing the community until his health begin to fail him. Mr. Lowery was married to the late Pearlie Lowery and the late Elsie Lowery. He is currently married to Sarratta Davis Lowery. “Bubba”, as he was lovingly and affectionately called by his family and friends, was a very special person that was about his community. His devotion is evident in his contributions and dedication to God, family and his community. To know him was to love him. His smile would brighten up a room. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, God saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. He had given his best, now take your rest. “Bubba” leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Schunda Lowery-Whatley and Shelia (Craig) Lowery-Dwyer of Sumter; one son, Travis Lisbon of Charlotte, NC; two stepsons, LaQue (Alaina) Franklin of Sanford, NC, Marty (Margaret) Jackson of Sumter; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa Lowery-Jones and Mary Lowery-Harvin; a very special niece, Cassandra Lowery-Thompson; loving and devoted nephews and nieces, Derrick, Kinte, Jeffrey, Yvette, Sheryl, Sonia, Antionette, Naima, Eddie, Barbara, Roger, Jeffrey, Michelle, Berthina and Linda; honorary granddaughters, Kimberly James and Eleasia Jones; adopted grandsons, Derek Brayboy, Dominque Wiggins and Tony Hudson; a brother-in-law, Calvin Hastie; best childhood friends, Eugene Williams and Mark Pearson; faithful longtime friends and co-workers, Darren McCormick, Carl Ford and Joe McElveen; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. ‘’Bubba” was preceded in death by one daughter, Tracie Lavern Lowery; three sisters, Beulah Hastie, Lillie Harris and Carrie Gantt; four brothers, Eddie Charles, Willie Lowery, Samuel Lowery and Charlie Lowery Jr. and one nephew, Larry Holman. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face mask and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home from 4:00 – 6:00 p. m., 829 Legare Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Morris College Neal Jones Auditorium, 100 West College Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Wayne Montgomery, pastor of Barnettsville Baptist Church, Eulogist. The funeral procession will leave the home at 1:30 p. m. Burial will follow in the Barnettsville Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 106 Manville – St. Charles Road, Bishopville.
