Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

James Gregory McCray, 64, also affectionately known as “Greg,”, was born to James and Algia McCray in Sumter, on August 18, 1958. James was peacefully summoned into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 16, 2022. He grew up in Sumter and graduated from Sumter High School. He went on to attend Johnson C. Smith University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. James spent his career working in management in the automotive industry for more than 20 years. Outgoing and gregarious, James was well known in the community as the go-to-guy for his ever-present assistance to family and friends. He also had a well-deserved reputation for being a sharp dresser and was known as the type of person who could bring laughter to any person. James was particularly distinguished as a patient and loving family man to his children, grandchildren and other close relatives. He and his former wife, Mary McCray, maintained a special bond raising their two children, Charles and Meghin and nurturing their three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father James. Survivors include his mother, Algia of Sumter; his brother, Ontrell (Stacie) of Charlotte and his sister, Aundry of Greenville; his children, Charles and Meghin of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Jaylin, Charlotte and Malia of Charlotte, and other relatives and friends. James now stands faultless before the presence of God’s glory with exceeding joy and grace. He stood by the Lord’s command “that we love one another as He loved us, that we also love one another." In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitations at the home. Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 p. m., Friday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.
