Betty Mae Charles, born November 1, 1968, was the youngest child of Clarie and the late Walter Charles, Sr. Betty, who was fondly known as “Kittie”, stepped across the threshold that we call death on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She stepped into the other room of our Father’s house from labor to reward. Betty Mae attended the public schools of Lee County, Bishopville, South Carolina, graduating from Bishopville High School in May of 1986. Betty joined St. Mark Baptist Church several years ago. She was employed at The Gibbs Center for many years until COVID-19 came into being. Betty Mae leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Clarie Josey Charles of the home; two brothers, Walter Charles Jr. of Bishopville, and Willie N. Charles of Sumter; seven aunts, Ada Bell Jenkins, Blanche Fraizer, Essie Mae Brisbon, Lessie Mae Peterson, and Sadie C. McDowell of Bishopville, Betty Mae Andrews of Greensboro, N. C., Priscilla (Willie Norwood) Charles of Camden; two uncles, Laddie Charles of Bishopville and Willie Norwood Charles of Camden; two nieces, Latavia and Shana Charles and one nephew, Kaneil Charles, all of Augusta, GA; one sister-in-law; four grand nephews, many cousins, family members and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 511 East College Street, Bishopville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, September 17, 2022, at St. Mark Baptist Church, 510 Manville-Wisacky Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Yancey Martin, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:40 a. m. Burial will be in the St. Mark Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
