Vermelle Sims Simmons, 82, was born June 10, 1940 to the late William Sims, Sr. and Lessie Mae Sims. Vermelle was the wife of Frank Simmons, Sr. She passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at her home. Vermelle was employed at J C Penny for 25 plus years until retiring in 2018. She was a truly devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was an active and devoted member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. She knew and loved the Lord. She is survived by: five children, Delina Hart, Frank Simmons, Jr., Melissa (John) Stinnett, Craig Brown and Bryant (Gloria) Simmons, all of Sumter; three sisters, Pauline Ryce, Louise (Calvin) Scott, Carol (Eugene) Williams; two brothers, William Sims and James (Gail) Sims; twenty one grandchildren; thirty two great grandchildren; a special niece, Theresa Sims, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation from 3:00 – 6:00 p. m., at the home, 101 Morgan Avenue, Sumter. Family viewing will be Sunday, 1:00 - 2:00 p. m. follow by public viewing and visitation from 2:00 to 6:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, July 11, 2022, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 1093 Oswego Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Charlie Thomas, Pastor. The Remains will be placed in the Church at 10:00 a. m. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m. Burial will be in the St. Mark United Methodist Church Yard Cemetery, Sumter.
