Charles D. Deas departed this earthly life on September 30, 2021 at National Healthcare in Sumter. He was born January 17, 1929 to the late Eugene Deas, Sr. and Alene Rembert Deas. In his youth he became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and later he became a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church serving on the choir for many years until he was no longer able to participate due to health issues. Charles was educated in the public schools in Sumter County and upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served one enlistment. Upon completion of his military enlistment he returned to Rembert, and attended Vocational School receiving his certification as a Brick Mason. In addition to providing superior masonry work for numerous years, he was also later employed at Shaw AFB for 35 years before his retirement. He was united in marriage and survived by his wife of 67 years Mary Mayrant Deas. He is also survived by five sons, Johnny of Richmond, VA, Thomas (Connie) of Rembert, Charles (Eunice) of Jonesboro, GA, Ronald of Columbia, and Michael of Jacksonville, NC; one brother, Whitt (Ruth) Deas of Rembert; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Rafting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, pastor, officiating Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
