On Wednesday, September 8th, 2021, Doris Roberta Gibbons Knight was called from labor to rest at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter. She was born in Sumter County to the late William F. Gibbons and Mattie J. Cousar Gibbons. She was a widow of the late James E. Knight. She was educated in Sumter County Schools. She moved to Philadelphia at an early age, where she attended Philadelphia Community College and obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration. She worked at Mrs. Smith’s Pie Company for several years until her retirement. “Sis”, as she was affectionately called, loved shopping, eating out, getting her hair done, loving on little children and occasionally going to the Sugar House Casino and the Parx Casino. Doris leaves to cherish her memories: her granddaughter, Lakita Renee Wactor and great-granddaughter, India Keiasia Wactor, both of Dalzell; four sisters, Ella M. Burns (Bishop L. H. Burns), Louise Goodman (devoted caregiver), Ardenia Parrett, Alice Stewart (David); two brothers, William G. Gibbons (Barbara) and Larry Gibbons; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Homegoing Celebration will be held 11:30 a. m., Thursday, September 16, 2021, in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Georg P. Windley, Jr., officiating. The procession will leave at 10:50 a. m. from the home,
