Evelena Johnson began her life journey on Friday, November 29, 1963, born to the late Johnny and Lue Emma Temoney Johnson in Sumter. She departed this earthly life to eternal rest on Saturday, August 21, 2021, with family by her side, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. Evelena attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was a graduate of Mayewood High School Vikings, Class of 1982. Evelena especially loved being around children. She worked with the Sumter School District for a short period of time as a sub on the school bus. Evelena grew up in the Beulah A M E Church, where she joined and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Ladies’ Club, Lay Organization, Usher Board and Mass Choir. She attended faithfully until her health would not allow her to attend regularly, but always kept a positive attitude. She loved gospel music and enjoyed hearing the Male Chorus sing. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three devoted sisters, Teresa Johnson, Lether Mae Johnson, and Johnnie Mae Stukes of the home, all of Sumter; one brother, Willie Johnson of Bishopville; a special godson, Keith Mark; seven uncles: Jeremiah (Ella) Temoney of Dalzell, Parish Temoney of Lamar, Mack Temoney of Greensboro, NC, Rev. Archie (Henrietta) Temoney, Rev. Abraham (Agnes) Temoney, Toby Temoney, all of Sumter, and Rev. Herbert (Kimberly) Temoney of Charleston; three aunts, Maggie Richardson of Baltimore, MD, Sarah Durant of Elliott, and Annie Mae Brailsford of Wedgefield; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home only from 3:00 – 7:00 p. m. daily, 107 Burkett Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 – 11:00 a. m. at Beulah A. M. E. Church, 3175 Florence Highway (U S Highway 76 East), Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dwayne Bruce, Senior Pastor, Eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Beulah A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery.
