Willie Matthew Blanding, Jr., 74, was born July 21, 1946 to the late Willie Matthew Blanding, Sr. and Clara Wilson in the Rafting Creek Community of Sumter County. He departed his earthly life on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. “Bill”, as he was affectionately known, began his education at Rafting Creek School where he lived until age 8. Upon moving to Philadelphia, he attended Hanna Elementary, Shoemaker Middle and Overbrook High School. To assist financially at home and to finance his path to college Willie entered the United State Air Force on April 20, 1965 and served our country until honorably discharged April 19, 1971. He earned Sergeant Status on June 1, 1967 and also received numerous awards among which was the Air Force Accommodation Award. Through his service he was afforded the opportunity to train, serve, travel and experience these places among others, Turkey, New York Texas and Florida. Willie leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Roslyn Delores Blanding; three children, Saleem Dominick Daniels Blanding, Will Menelik Blanding (Rayza), Keisha Blanding Yancey (Naas); fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Terri Lee Blanding-Skinner, Pamela Lynn Blanding-Godbolt; one brother, Clifford Charles Blanding; two aunts, Annie Wilson Robinson, Theresa Wilson Dinkins; ten nieces and nephews, a multitude of cousins, friends and neighbors. In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends at home visitation, 4095 Highway 261 North, Rembert Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m, Saturday, October 31, 2020 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. The procession will leave the home at 1:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert.
