Marion M. Nathaniel, 78, was the 11th of 15 children born to the late Macedonia and Marie Nathaniel, born on July 24, 1942 in Sumter. He was raised in Sumter, where he received his formal education in the Sumter County Public School System. He departed this life on October 6, 2020 at his residence Marion began his early spiritual journey at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Weston where he worshipped with his family. He was a dedicated and faithful usher from an early age until the late 1990’s. Marion moved to Brooklyn, New York where he served dutifully as a Deacon of Pilgrim Church and also at Word of Faith Church of Indianapolis, Indiana and Paxville. He rejoined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marion Newton. Marion was employed for many years as a surveyor for Edward Land Surveyor of Sumter before moving to Brooklyn, N. Y. Marion leaves to cherish his memories: his sister, Marie (Bishop Amos) Myers of Sumter; one special nephew, Leroy (Geneva) Nathaniel of Brooklyn, N. Y.; three special nieces, Barbara (Mickey) Killiebrew of Sumter, Frances Nathaniel of Brooklyn, N. Y. and Thomasina (Tina) Gowins of Carlisle, PA; one brother-in-law; five sisters-in-law, a host of other her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all home visitation at 6655 J J Roberts Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. The procession will leave from the home at 11:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.
