On the evening of September 29, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, Mary Lee “Emily” Butler-Pearson heard our Heavenly Father calling her name and slipped peacefully away with the Lord. Born in Sumter on March 17, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Emily Robinson-Butler and Harrison Butler, Sr. She received her education within the public school system of Sumter and graduated with a diploma in the mid 1960s. She later met and married the love of her life, Thomas Pearson. To this union they had four children of their own. She was last employed by the former Campbell Soup Company before tasking the enormous job of raising a household of four of her own children full time and five of her ten grandchildren. Those who remain to cherish her memories are: her husband, Thomas Pearson; four children, Thomasina D. Carroll, Thomas Lee Pearson, Theressa M. Pearson and Troy L. Pearson, all of Sumter; nine grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; her siblings, Harrison Butler III, Titus Butler, Roosevelt Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 200 Vernon Drive, Sumter. Public viewing with be from 2:00 – 5:00 p. m., Tuesday, October 6, 2020 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Graveside Services will be held 1:00 p. m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Bethel A. M. E. Church Cemetery, 1595 South Kings Highway, Wedgefield, with Elder Kenneth Choice, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m.
