George Thomas, 84, was born February 4, 1936 in Lexington, NC to the late Coleman Thomas and Mary Baralson. On February 16, 2020 he entered into God’s heavenly gates at Sumter Health and Rehab Center. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. George served in the United States Army from July 25, 1955 until November 22, 1957 when he was honorably discharge. He was a floor tile mason by trade. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on March 16, 1986. Those left to cherish his memories are: his daughter, Cynthia D. Butler of Sumter; grandsons, Joseph B. Halsey, Jr. (Jarneec) of Newport News, VA, Jonathan D. Halsey of Seattle, WA; former wife, Lawanna Dolson-Thomas of Conway; special cousins, Isaac McCullum (Betty) of Sumter and Willamena Kelly of Bronx, NY; a host of other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends from 3 to 8 pm at the home, 101 North Wise Drive, Apt #208, Sumter. Memorial Services will be held 1 p. m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 from Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, Pastor, and Elder Kenneth Choice, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m.
