James Abrams, 66, affectionately known as “Brother”, departed this life on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Doctors Hospital, Augusta, GA. Born June 4, 1952, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Cleveland Grant and Mary Abrams. Brother received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. Prior to the onset of health conditions, Brother was employed for over 20 years with Georgia Industries for the Blind until retirement. He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Jamie (Ramon) Newkirk; a son, William Abrams of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Nadia, Ray Jr. and Aniya; a great grandson, Amarri, all of Sumter; his siblings: Patricia Abrams of Orange, NJ, Alphonso (Elizabeth) Abrams of Sumter, Charles Abrams of East Orange, NJ, Renee (Degny) Abrams Lopez of Elizabeth, NJ, Carol (Richard) Gavin, Ricky Grant, Angel (Aaron) Daniels, Ernestine (Willie) Jenkins all of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 60 Wildberry Lane, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, 2 p. m. from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Joseph Ricks, officiating, eulogist. The procession will leave at 1:20 p. m. from the home. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dalzell.
