David Eugene Evans, 74, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 Barnadas Hospital, East Orange, N. J. Born June 11, 1943, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late John and Nora White Evans. David attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1964 graduate of Eastern High School now known as R. E. Davis Elementary School. During his high school years, he was a bus driver and an outstanding football player. After graduating, David relocated to Newark, NJ with his sister, Delphenia, and was employed by Micro Engineering Company. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and toured in Vietnam from 1969 – 1973. After his tour of duty, he gained employment with the United Parcel Service and remained with the company for thirty years. He was also an investor in Real Estate, and was the owner of an apartment duplex and a General Contractor. He leaves to cherish his memories: Alma Smallwood Evans, to whom he was married at an early age and to this union a daughter was born, Dawn Evans Haynes (Kevin Harris; three sisters, Delpheina E. Cunningham, Martha Amos and Geraldine (Joe) McKenny; two brothers, James (Gwen) Westley and George Wright; one uncle, Harmon L. Evans; two grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his sister, 1421 Illery Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, 11 a. m., at Saint James Holiness Church, 3655 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, with Elder Alfreda Johnson, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10 a. m. The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home. Burial will be Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10 a. m. in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
