Sunset for Frances Rhodie Carolina, 81, came on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter. Frances’ sunrise to the late George Carolina, Sr. and Rhodie Alston was on February 22, 1933. “Toy”, as she was affectionately known, attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was joined in marriage to Wallace Bradford who preceded her in death.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of Willow Grove A. M. E. Church, where she served her church faithfully on several auxiliaries including the Usher Board, Women Missionary Society and Stewardess Board.
Frances was kind, patient, and loving; she seldom complained and was always eager to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, volunteering to help her church, and most of all praising her Savior. She always greeted everyone with a pleasant smile and a witty sense of humor. Frances was a long time resident of Horatio, but spent her final years at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sumter.
Frances was a proud and devoted mother of three children, a son, Edward (Leitha Mae) Carolina of Dalzell; two daughters, Eunice (Charles) Dais of Jonesboro, GA, and Barbara Jean Carolina, who preceded her in death; her sister, Rosa Lee Rice of Jersey City, N. J.; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Carolina of Horatio; six grandchildren, James, Kenny, Shemeka, Jelani, Jamie and Edward; nine great-grandchildren; her nephew, Carl; and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her precious memories.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Carolina, Jr., and a sister, Fannie Fulton.
