Rev. Willie Arthur Pearson, Sr., 83, husband of Gladys Robinson Pearson, took flight and soared in Heaven on Monday, January 7, 2013. Born in Lee County on August 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Sam Pearson and Sallie Flower Pearson.
Willie gave his life to Christ at an early age at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Bishopville. He received his education in the public school system of Lee County. He was a member of Lucknow Lodge #324 Prince Hall Masonic. Rev. Pearson was the founder of South Carolina #1 Ministerial Alliance.
Those left to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Mrs. Gladys Robinson Pearson of 63 years of Sumter; three sons, Sammie (Deborah) Pearson of Columbia, Corey (Sabrina) Pearson of Charlotte, N. C., Jeffery Pearson of Columbia; four daughters, Polly Brown, Laura (Anthony) Gillie, Terry Brunson, and Sheila (Ronald) Smalls, all of Columbia; twenty six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alberta Robinson Simons of Washington, D. C.; his dearest godmother, Mrs. Rosa Frierson of Bishopville; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Willie Pearson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Monday, January 14, 2013 from the Elizabeth Baptist Church, 4986 Camden Highway, Bishopville, with the Reverend Gregory Jackson, Pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Allen Boykin.
The family will receive friends at the home 1304 North Main Street, Sumter.
The Funeral procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m.
Floral bearers will be the Eastern Stars.
Pall bearers will be members of Lucknow Lodge #324 Prince Hall Masonic.
Burial will be in Elizabeth Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Bishopville.
