Stan James, Sr., 79, widower of Carolyn Billups James, transitioned from this life to heaven on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Lee County on April 21, 1933, Stan was the son of the late Octavia James. He will be remembered as a kind and caring man. He loved his family and worked tirelessly to ensure their well being. He loved gardening and tending to his animals.
Mr. James was an active and faithful life long member of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, where he served in various capacities until his health declined: Senior Steward Board, Senior Usher Board, Gospel Choir, Senior Choir and Sons of Allen.
He was employed with Korn Industry for 29 years, prior to his retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Charity Sanders (William); and three sons, Stan James, Jr. (Carrie), Larry James, all of Sumter and Terry James (Rose Mary of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister, Rosa Green of Sumter; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie James and a host of brothers, sisters and in-laws.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Mt. Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Rev. E. L. Sanders, and Evangelist E. V. Brunson.
The family is receiving friends at his residence, 3360 Hill Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m.
The funeral procession will leave 10:30 a. m. from his residence.
Floral bearers will be his nieces.
Pall bearers will be his grandsons.
Burial will be in the Colclough Cemetery, Dubose Siding Road, Sumter.
