William Levi Nelson

William Levi “Bozo” Nelson, 69, companion of Betty Jean Blanding, departed this earthly life on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter.  Born in Clarendon County on October 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Levi Nelson and Cardiver Frierson Nelson.

He was educated in the public school system of Clarendon County and attended Manning Training School, Manning. Nelson was employed with Georgia Pacific for many years before retiring.  He was also employed with Night-Eye Security.

At an early age he joined Reeseville A. M. E. Church, where he was a dedicated member to his church. He served as a member of the Usher Board, Trustee Board and the choir.

In 1967 he joined William Grand Lodge and was a Master Mason, Royal Arch Mason, Knights Templar, Consistry, Omar Temple #119.  Later, he joined New Hope Grand Lodge in 1993.  He was a Sovereign, Grand Inspector General of New Hope Grand Lodge No. 11 of Columbia.  He received his 33° Degree.

He leaves a legacy of love to all the knew him: his companion, Betty Jean Blanding of the home;  two daughters, Joyce Nelson Barber of Brooklyn, N. Y.,  Lori Renee Green of the home; four step daughters, 1st SGT  Tamaro Soto of Fayetteville, N. C, Jennifer Williams of Sumter, Sharie Blanding of Rembert, Melissa McCulluman of Clinton, Ohio;  two step sons, SGT  Walter Blanding of Sumter, Lorenzo Blanding of the home;  four sisters, Emma Lawson of Baltimore, MD, Phozia Jackson of Brooklyn, N. Y.,  Lillie Ann (Jerry) of Manning, Inez (Frank) Simmons of Alcolu;  two brothers, Selvin (Barbara) Nelson of Alcolu and Larry (Crystal) Nelson of Manning: three aunts, Susan Frances and Lee Frierson, both of Sumter, Marie (Gilbert) Frierson of Brooklyn, N. Y.;  two girls raised in the home as his own, Evelyn Green and Janet (Jimmie) Joe of Sumter;  five boys, Willie (Earnestine) Green of Alcolu, Clyde (Vera) Green of Fayetteville, N. C., Richard, Chris (Vickie) Green and Ernest (Wanda) Green, all of Sumter;  sixteen grandchildren; fourteen step grand children; eighteen great grandchildren; two step great grand children; special cousins, relatives and friends, Stacy aka Blade,  Lewis Grant, Sr., Loman aka Pop-Corn,  Alta Mae aka BaBa, John Nelson, Joe Green,  and Cynthia Green;  a host of nieces,  nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  two brothers, Grant Lee and Robert; one sister, Barbara Jean Nelson; one aunt, Queen Frierson; two grandchildren, Tiffany D. Green and Dontrell McFadden.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Reeseville AME Church, Highway 521 South,  Alcolu,  with the Rev. Marie Harvin, pastor,  eulogist, assisted by Rev. Melissa Calvin.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1026 Morton Street, Sumter.

A wake service with the Masonic Rites will be held  6:00 – 7:00 p. m., Friday in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m.

The funeral procession will leave 11:20 a. m. from the home.

Floral bearers will be the Order of Eastern Stars.

Pall bearers will be Masonic Brothers of St. James Lodge # 2.

Burial will be in the Reeseville A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, Sumter.
