Harold DuRant, 78, departed his life on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Sumter Valley Health Rehabilitation Nursing Home, Sumter. Born in Sumter on August 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Moultrie Durant and Janie Jackson Durant.
He was educated in the school systems of Sumter County. He was very gifted, skilled and talented in the trade of carpentry and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA).
He was united in Holy Matrimony in 1954 to his wife, Shirley McGill. To this union two children were born.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: three sons, Larry (Melody) DuRant of Sumter, Harold Kevin DuRant of Durham, NC and Timmy Rhodes of Columbia; one daughter, Tammy Rhodes of Sumter; one brother, Johnnie Lee (Queen) DuRant of Hillside, NJ; two sisters, Almeta Cook of Newark, NJ, Rebecca Barnes of Sumter; ten grandchildren, Tevia Gray, LaKevia DuRant, Tia DuRant, Jeremiah DuRant and Faith DuRant, all of Sumter; Misty DuRant, Kevin DuRant, Tonya DuRant, Larry DuRant and Kenneth DuRant, all of Durham, NJ; four great grandchildren; a special friend, Deacon Daniel Meynard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p. m., Sunday, June 10, 2012 from the Word International Ministries, 1010 North Guignard Drive, Sumter with Apostle Larry DuRant, Senior Pastor, eulogist, assisted by Elder Melody DuRant.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his son, Apostle Larry DuRant, 2080 Four Bridges Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:30 p. m.
The procession will leave 1:00 p. m. from the home of his son.
