Robert Melton, Sr.

Robert Melton, Sr.,  74,  departed this life on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center,  Sumter.  Born August 12, 1936  in Lee County,  the son of  to the late   Frank Melton, Sr. and Carola Jenkins Melton.

He was educated in the public school system of Lee County.  At an early age, he was a member of Martin Town Presbyterian Church (USA).  Later, he became a member of St. Paul Holiness Church, where he was a member of the St. Paul Senior Citizens Organization.

He was first united in Holy Matrimony to the late Minister Martha Melton.  This union was blessed with one son.  After the passing of his wife, he was married to Ida Pershay Melton.

His memories will be cherished by:  his wife, Ida Melton;  one son, Robert (Nether) Melton, Jr. of Sumter;  three grandchildren, one of whom he raised, Terri K. Melton-Benton of Camden, Sonya D.  Melton and Jennifer A. Melton of Rembert;  three great grandchildren, Miyosha McCloud, Javonte’ McCloud and Tre’ Melton of Rembert;  one great-granddaughter, Chadre’ McCloud of Rembert;  two brothers, Henry (Willie Bell) Melton and George Herbert (Irene) Melton of Sumter;  two sisters, Martha Vaughn of Sumter and Ollie Mae Dixon of Woodrow; three step children; several sisters and brothers-in-law;   a host of  other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Funeral  services  will be  held  2:00 p. m.,  Sunday, April 10, 2011   from the St. Paul Holiness Church,  129 1/2 West Moore Street,  Sumter,  with Elder Barrington Pierson, pastor, eulogist,  Minister Timothy Vaughn, presiding,  assisted by Elder Walter Hamilton, Minister Rosa McDuffie, Minister Viola Linton, and Minister Mattie Linton.

The family will receive friends at the family home 44 Melton Lane,  Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 1:30 p. m.

Floral bears will be Nieces and Missionaries of St. Paul Holiness Church.

Pall bears will be Nephews and Brotherhood of St. Paul Holiness Church.

Interment will be in the St. Paul Holiness Church  Cemetery,  Sumter.
