Ellen Cabbagestalk Pearson

God’s death angles came and bore the bright spirit of Ellen “Nunka” Cabbagestalk Pearson,  79, widow of Elijah Pearson,  away to a land that is free from sickness, sorrow and pain on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Carolina Pines Hospital, Hartsville.  Born in Sumter on March 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late  Henry and Mary Cabbagestalk.

“Nunka”, as she was affectionately called, joined Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church at an early age, where she served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board, Women’s Missionary Society (Colclough Unit), and the Stewardess Board.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two sons, Elijah “Mack” Cabbagestalk (Lucille) and Alpha Cabbagestalk of Sumter; six daughters, Monica Pearson, Mary Ellen, Rebecca, Emma Cabbagestalk and Jacquelyn (Wayne) Russ, all of Sumter, Omega C. Randolph (Cedric) of Williamson, GA;  two granddaughters, Latasha and Cleopatra;  seven grandsons, Michael, Jamie, Marcus, Xavier, Marshall, William and Cornelius;  a daughter-in-law, Selinda Cabbagestalk of Sumter; five siblings, James and Robert Cabbagestalk,  Mary McLeod, Elise Jennings, Carrie Tention;   a host of  nieces,  nephews,  cousins, and  family friends.

She was preceded in death by two children, Herbert Leo Cabbagestalk and Eliza Cabbagestalk.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road,  Woodrow,   with  the Reverend Timothy A. Johnson, Sr., pastor, eulogist, assisted by Evangelist E. Virginia Brunson, Rev. Cedric William Randolph and Rev. Dr. Friendly Gadson.

The Family will receive friends at the family home 415 Westbury Mill Road, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the Church at 1:00 p. m.

The procession will leave from the family home at 1:20 p. m.

Floral bearers will be members of the Women’s Missionary Society (Colclough Unit) and Stewardess.

Pall bearers will be friends and family.

Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Sumter.
