Rebecca Pressley Dinkins, 84, departed from her earthly family on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Palmetto Health Baptist Medical Center, Columbia..
Born in Sumter County on July 6, 1926, she was a daughter of Guilyard Pressley Dinkins and Mary Jane Pressley. She was reared by a special aunt, the late Minnie Howard.
“Rebe”, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was employed by B. F. Good Rich & Company of Lugoff Elgin and Oxford Industries of Camden from which she retired. Upon her retirement she served as advocate, servant, friend to her church and community. She met no one whom she considered a stranger. Giving and serving others was her delight.
She attended Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Borden becoming a Christian at a very early age. After uniting in marriage to Paul “Shorty” Dinkins, she became a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her death. She actively participated in her church and was a member of the Trustees Wives, Pastor’s Aide Society, the YWA and Senior Missionary Society.
As a faithful wife and mom, she leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband of 65 years, Paul “Shorty” Dinkins of Rembert; three children, Deacon Johnnie Dinkins (Annette), Lawrence Dinkins (Ruth), and Wanda Robinson (Angelo), all of Rembert: a son-in-law, Gerald Garrett of Powder Springs, Georgia; one sister, Rosa Wright of Harlem, N. Y.; one brother, Edward “Bubba” Pressley of Hempstead, N. Y.; one brother-in-law, Deacon Edgar Dinkins, and three sisters-in-law, Catherine Dinkins, Millie Alston and Edmonia Wade, all of Rembert; three cousins whom she considered to be her sisters and brother, Sarah Robinson, Rosa Howard and Wilbert “Bill” Howard; a special niece and caregiver, Ruth Clea; fifteen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends that will treasure her memory forever.
She was preceded in death by four children, Samuel Paul, Clarence, Dorothy and Stella; three sisters, Queen, Maggie, and Mable; and one brother, Jim.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P. M., Thursday, October 28, 2010 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert with Reverend Melvin Mack, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Eugene Dennis, Rev. Carol Sanders, Rev. Willie Dennis, Sr., Rev. Lillian Reynolds, Rev. Burdell Hill, Rev. John F. Kennedy, Pastor John Lakin and Pastor Sally Lakin.
The family will receive friends at the home 4395 Spencer Road, Rembert.
The Remains will be placed in the church for viewing at 2:00 p. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 2:20 p. m.
Floral Bearers will be Senior Missionary and Trustee Wives.
Pall Bearers will be Grandsons.
Interment will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert.
