Alice Johnson

Alice Johnson, 89,    entered eternal rest on  Thursday,  October 7, 2010   at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville. 
Born  in Lee County on July 11, 1921,   she was a daughter of the late Isaiah Johnson, Sr. and Martha Wilson Johnson.  She received her education in the public schools of Lee County.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, where she served faithfully until her health declined.  She was a member of the Gospel Choir, Women’s Missionary Society and Usher Board. 

“Mutter”, as she was affectionately called, was employed with the Lee County School District for a number of years before her retirement.  She was a very caring and sweet person who truly loved her children and her family.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  her husband, Isaac Johnson, Sr.;  eight loving children, Elijah (Jean) Johnson of Linden, N. J.,  Sammy (Janie) Johnson of Dalzell,  Johnny  (Lillie) Johnson of Sumter,  Geneva (Elijah) McDaniel of Dalzell,  Dorothy (Warren) Bradford of Sumter, Matthew Johnson of Dalzell,  Ernest (Flossie) Johnson of Dalzell,  James (Tanya) Johnson of Bear, Delaware;  two sisters-in-law,  Corine Johnson of Dalzell and Corine Dixon of Linden, N. J;  one brother-in-law, Marion (Rev. Roberta)  Wilson of Dalzell;  forty three grandchildren;  a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren;   a daughter-in-law, Gloria Johnson of Fayetteville, NC;   a host of nieces,  nephews, other relatives and friends.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by  two sons,  Alex and  Isaac Johnson,  Jr.,  and one daughter, Martha Dixon.

Funeral  services  will  be  held 2:00 P. M.,   Monday,  October 11, 2010  from   the  Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church,  2738 Woodrow Road,  Woodrow,  with Reverend Timothy A. Johnson, Sr.,  pastor,  eulogist, assisted by Rev. J. Elbert Williams,  Rev Julia Sanders and Rev. M. Charmaine Ragin-Whittleton.

The family will receive friends at the  home of her son,  Matthew Johnson,  2087 Springhill Road, Dalzell.

The Remains will be placed in the church for viewing at 1:00 P. M. until the hour of service.

The  funeral  procession  will leave  from  the  home of her son at 1:30  P. M.

Floral Bearers will be granddaughters.

Pall Bearers will be grandsons.

Honorary floral bearers  and Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Gospel Choir.

Burial will be in the Cooksfield Cemetery, Dalzell.
