Harold E. Nixon, 70, completed his earthly mission on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Emory Hillandale Hospital, Lithonia, GA. Born on April 3, 1949, in Dalzell, he was the son of the late William “Booster” Nixon, Sr. and Evelyn Keith Nixon. He received his education from Ebenezer High School and Brooklyn City College. Harold had a passion for agriculture, as he pursued his certifications with the Professional Agricultural Workers Conference (PAWC). He grew up farming, pursued small farming in South Carolina and desired to return to farming. Harold was a United State Veteran who served in the United States Army as a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division and the Vietnam War. He received a number of awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, The Bronze Star Medal and The Army commendation Medal in addition to others. He had a special place in his heart for other Veterans and often made friends with them wherever he traveled. Harold was a faithful steward, anointed teacher and a man of great wisdom. He served on the Board of Directors of Cross Culture Church where his primary focus was on Business. Institutional Transactions and Transportation. He served as an advisor for the Cross Culture Church Garden Ministry as well as the Men’s Ministry. He married Rosa Myers on April 21, 1973. They raised two children. He is survived by his wife, Rosa; two children, Julian (Shante’) of Greenville and Rosalyn (Warren Downing) of Martinsburg, WV; one granddaughter (Jazara Nixon) of Greenville; his brothers, Willie III (Bunny) of Seven Lakes, NC and Harvin (Barbara) of Sumter; his sisters, Deloris (Douglas) Long of Eastover and Carolyn (James) Martin of Irvington, NJ; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, adopted sons and daughters, god children, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of Larry and Deloris Myers, 4920 John Franklin Road, Sumter. Homegoing Services will be held 3:30 p. m., today, September 14, 2019 from the St. Paul A. M. E. Church - Shaw, 1495 North St. Paul’s Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Eric Dent, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p. m. The funeral procession will leave the home at 3:00 p. m. Burial will be in the St. Paul A. M. E. Church Cemetery, Sumter.
