David "Dee" Nelson, 88, husband of Magnolia Bennett Nelson, departed this earthly life on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter.
Born December 28, 1921, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Seppie and Eva Kibler Nelson.
He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, and later enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his tour of duty to his country, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Certificate of Appreciation, and the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his Honorable Discharge, he was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Sumter County Police Department for ten years.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted and loving wife, Magnolia Bennett Nelson of Sumter; a daughter, Lisa Gordon; two grandsons, Garren and Wesley; one great granddaughter, Maliyah, all of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Ann Davis of Brooklyn, NY; five sisters-in-law, Iola Bennett, Betty Aldrich and Marva Bennett, all of Rembert, Leslie Bennett of Plainfield, NJ, Fredricka Nelson of Long Island, NY; one brother-in-law, John Aldrich of Camden; a favorite niece, Thelma (JD) DeLoach of Upper Marlboro, MD; a special cousin, Mary Lewis of Sumter; a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 from the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter with Rev. Sharyn A. Boyd, officiating, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Frank Williams, Jr.
The family will received friends at the family home 1057 Manning Road, Sumter.
The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 12:30 p. m.
Floral Bearers will be friends of the family.
Pall Bearers will be the Sumter County Sheriff Department.
Burial will be in the Kibler Cemetery 2175 Boulevard Rod, Sumter.
