Oct 11, 1919 to Dec 12, 2018

Deacon Edward Porter, 99, shared his life with his loving and devoted wife, Mable McLeod Porter until his death on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home. Born October 11, 1919, in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Deacon Julius and Eva Porter. In 1936, he served his country in the Armed Forces and fought in World War II, where he was honorably discharged. In 1948, he moved to Washington, DC, where he attended the Modern School of Music and in 1949 met and fell in love with Mable McLeod. They married November 12, 1950 and from this union five children were born. The couple relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 1957 where Mr. Porter worked at Victor Mayer Catering as a truck driver. He decided to branch out and start his own trucking business, Eddies Delivery Service, which is still in full operation and run by his son today. Mr. Porter loved the Lord and he and his family attended church regularly. In 1984 he became an Ordained Deacon at Philippians Community Church under the leadership of the now deceased Reverend Melvin Ward. In 1988, Deacon Porter retired and moved to South Carolina. He attended Union Baptist Church, where he proudly served as a deacon until he was unable to attend. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Missionary Mable Porter; four children, Rev. Glorious Artis (Rev. Jerry Artis), Barbara Porter, Karen Porter, Eric Porter; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; a host of other family and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 6645 Camden Highway, Rembert. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, 12 noon, from the Union Baptist Church, 5840 Spring Hill Road, Rembert, with the Rev. Walter Robinson III, pastor, Minister Ericka Logan, eulogist. The funeral procession will leave the home at 11:20 a. m.
