Sam “Nogga” Ramsey, Jr., 79, the oldest of ten children born to the late Sam Ramsey, Sr. and Betsy Wright Ramsey, was born October 16, 1938 in Sumter. He was called from earthly labor to eternal rest on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Carolina Hospital System, Florence. He attended public school in Sumter and received additional training through his employment. “Nogga” was employed at the South Carolina Department of Transportation and retired in 2001. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Wayman Chapel AME Church. As an adult, he reaffirmed his faith and reconnected as a full member at Wayman Chapel. He supported the church and attended regularly until his health declined. He was united in marriage to the late Lucy Mae Weston and to this union four sons were born. He later met and married the late Louise Brooks and they were blessed with three daughters. Precious memories of his life will be shared by: two sons, James Ramsey of Woodbridge, VA, Ely (Shelia) Ramsey of Greensboro, NC; three daughters, Rose Ramsey (Luke) Okojie of Landover, MD, Wanda Ramsey (Nathan) Long of Clinton, MD, Brenda Ramsey of Washington, DC; nineteen grandchildren; twenty four great grand children; sisters, Sarah Ramsey Lewis, Rosa Lee Ramsey (Robert) Dennis, Lou “Juliette” Ramsey Diggs of Sumter and Rosanna Ramsey White of Detroit, MI; god son, Henry “Joe” Singleton of South Carolina; a special friend and companion, Mary Williams; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1755 Ethel Lane, Sumter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 – 10 a. m. from the Wayman Chapel A M E Church, 160 North Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton, Jr., Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 9 a. m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 9:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Wayman Chapel A M E Church Cemetery.
