Loretta Hankerson Halley, 87, wife of Leo P. Halley, Jr., departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born on January 26, 1931, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Davis and Susan Sinkler Davis Gaskins. She attended the public schools of New Jersey. In 1991, Loretta retired from Verizon, where she had worked for many years. After relocating to South Carolina in 1995, Loretta joined Salem Baptist Church and attended various other churches (including St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Camden) before her health began to fail. However, wherever she went, those she met knew her as a Christian woman full of wisdom. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Leo P. Halley, Jr.; one brother, William Davis; two nieces, Doris Davis and Sheila Jones Bethea; two nephews, Walter Davis and David Jones, Jr.; two stepdaughters, Linda Wright and Roni Acosta; five brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; two special adopted daughters, Linda Williams and Rebecca Anne Butler; a host of other family and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 305 Kendal Avenue, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 11 a. m. from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Willie Dennis, officiating, eulogist . The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
