Marrion Butler

Marrion Butler, 77, widower of Leona Raysor Butler, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2018 at Blue Ridge of Sumter. Born June 21, 1940, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Norman Willie and Hattie Jones Butler. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School. He served two years in the United States Army Reserve, and later attended Johnson C. Smith University. During his high school and collegiate careers he proved to be an exceptional athlete setting quite a few records in track and field as well as football. In the 60’s Marrion migrated to New York City becoming an entrepreneur where he owned and operated “Marrion’s Barber Shop, as well as other business ventures in Brooklyn, NY. Early in life he accepted Christ and united with Orange Hill A. M. E. Church. After moving to New York City, he became a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and upon relocating back to Sumter he continued to worship as member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by Kenneth (Margaret) Butler of Jamaica, NY and Terence Bernard Butler of Bronx, NY, Dexter (Tajma) Davis of Atlanta, GA and Marcella (Lawrence) Singleton of Columbia; one sister, Viola Butler Pitts of Sumter; nine grandchildren; his in-laws, Annie R. Hutchinson, Deacon Leon Raysor Jr., Louis Raysor, Mary Seel, Rev. Dr. Cecil Raysor, Josephine Raysor, Deacon Leo Raysor, Rev. Inez Raysor, Thurmon Raysor, Douglas Raysor, Reuben Raysor, Shelby Raysor and Carol Chatman; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 4070 Horatio Hagood Road, Horatio. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27, 2018, 11 a. m. from the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10 a. m. The funeral procession will leave the home at 10:15 a. m. Burial will be Saturday, April 28, 2018, 11 a. m. in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.
