Reva D. Simmons, affectionately known as “Dell”, departed this life on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born in Sumter County on November 29, 1927, she was the widow of the late Roosevelt Simmons and the daughter of the late Jessie and Mary Frierson. Reva Dell had an unwavering faith in God as she accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age. In her early years she joined Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church and then later joined Grant Hill Baptist Church, Dalzell. Upon moving back to Wedgefield, she became a member of St. Paul A. M. E. Church, Shawfield, where she served as a member of both the Senior and Gospel Choir. Reva Dell was educated in the Sumter County public school system. Her loving memories will be cherished by: her children, Willie Lee (Henrietta) Bradley of Savannah, GA, Dorotha (Herbert) Davis of Sumter, Leroy (Earline) Bradley of Murfeesboro, TN, Jessie (Shirlene) Simmons of Washington, NC, Teddie (Leontyne) Simmons, Martha (Larry) Wright and Doretha (Ron) Pearson, all of Wedgefield; three step daughters, Rosa (George) Walker of Florida, Earlene Wright of Columbia and LaTasha Prince of Sumter; special grand children raised in the home, Angela (Edward) Pugh, Tabitha Simmons, Rondell (Bernadette) Simmons and Ta’Reva Pearson; one brother, Jessie (Mary) Frierson Jr. of Sumter; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Simmons; one uncle, Roosevelt Swinton; one aunt, Naomi Swinton; one sister-in-law, Loretta Simmons; twenty nine grandchildren; forty two great grandchildren; a special friend, Carrie Butler; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 5650 Alcott Drive, Wedgefield. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 - 2 p. m. from the St. Paul A. M. E. Church - Shawfield, Sumter, with the Rev. Eric Dent, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1 p. m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 1:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Aycock Cemetery, Wedgefield.
