Ella Mae Bradford-Martin, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia. Born June 27, 1939, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late James Bradford II and Elease Gallishaw Bradford. She received her formal education in the public schools of Lee County and attended Dennis High School, Bishopville. “Ruth”, as she was affectionately called, was raised in a Christian home and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board, Women Missionary Society (Borroughs Unit), Adult Choir and Stewardess Board until her health declined. She was also a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Ruth was a soft spoken person with a sweet, sweet spirit. She was a woman of few words but always had a way of making people laugh. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her wisdom and patience. She leaves to cherish precious memories: her husband, Rochelle Martin, Jr.; two sons, Timothy N. (Latisha) Martin of Sumter, James Rochelle Martin; three daughters, Frances (Charles) Spann and Roberta D. Martin of Sumter, Dorothy A. Martin of the home; thirteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; three brothers, Elijah (Geneva) Bradford, Sr., and Warren (Dorothy) Bradford of Sumter, Samuel (Stephanie) Bradford of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Sadie Bradford of Sumter, Carolyn Mickens of East Orange, NJ; four sisters-in-law, Ada Brunson, Geneva Sexton, Allean Martin of Sumter, and Lucy Hickman of Bishopville; four brothers-in-law, Samuel (Betty) Martin Sr., Raymond (Camilla) Martin and William D. Martin of Sumter, James Martin of Philadelphia, PA; extended family, James and Katie Mahoney of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 5450 Raymond Jenkins Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018, 12 noon from the Mt. Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11 a. m. The funeral procession will leave the home at 11:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Sumter.
