Vermell Melton Davis, 79, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends during the last days of her life. Born June 9, 1938, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Willie “Buster” and Lillie Bell McFadden Melton. At an early age she confessed faith in Jesus Christ and joined St. Mark Baptist Church. After marrying the love of her life she joined New Haven United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member of the Senior Choir, served on the Usher Board and a member of the United Methodist Women until her health failed. She was educated in the public schools of Lee County. Vermell was a retiree of the Lee County School District. She worked at West Lee Elementary School for 20 years in the Food Service Department. She was a loving wife to her husband, Tommy Davis for almost 60 years. Vermell was a very devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and a dear friend. She was truly a virtuous woman and her love for her Lord and her faith in God was proven throughout her life by being very sweet, patient, truthful and kind. She had a heart of gold and brought joy, happiness and laughter to her family and friends. To know her was to love her. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, Tommy Davis of the home; three sons, Gregory Davis of Bishopville, Willie (Cynthia) Davis of Dalzell and Thomas Davis of Saginaw, MI; three daughters, Edna (David) Wilson of Dalzell, Lorine (Theo) Isaac of Flint, MI and Yvette (Robert) Bradley of Bishopville; one brother, Jasper Melton of Saginaw, MI; four sisters, Estelle McMillian of Woodrow, Blondell Prescott of Saginaw, MI, Barbara (Willie) Bowman and Elma Joe of Bishopville; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Lula Mae Davis of Dalzell, Martha Davis of Pittsburg, PENN, Mattie Young of Winston Salem, NC and Theresa Melton of Columbia. Her memory will also be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Vermell was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Christopher Davis; one grandson, Deandre Goins; three brothers, Willie Rob Melton, W C Melton and Willie Melton; three sisters, Ruby Turner, Rosa Currence and Ezell Williams. The family is receiving relatives and friends at her home, 3250 Spring Hill Road, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018, 2 p. m, from the New Haven United Methodist Church, 3159 Red Hill Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Fadetra Harrington Boyd, pastor, the Rev. Charlie Thomas, eulogist. Wake Services will be held Wednesday, 5 – 6 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the Church at 1p. m. The procession will leave the home at 1:30p p. m. Burial will be in the New Haven United Methodist Church Cemetery.
