Joseph Thomas Abram was born July 9, 1946 in Sumter to the late Johnnie and Rosa Lee Cook Abram. He entered into eternal rest March 7, 2018. Joseph, affectionately known as "Sambo" to family, was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Benedict College. He worked as a groundskeeper for the Columbia Housing Authority before becoming a police officer for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department where he served 25 years. Later he served as a school resource officer for Fairfield Central High until his retirement in 1998. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Abram; mother, Rosa Lee Cook Abram; 2 brothers, Phillip and James Abram. Joseph is survived by: three sisters, Irene McFadden, Martha Jefferson, and Kattie Davis; five daughters, Michelle Taylor, Melissa Richardson, Bridget Jones, Margaret Suber, and Ansonette Abram; two sons, Kevin Williams and Alex Williams; eighteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the home, 868 Club Lane, Sumter. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 – 11 a. m. from the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church USA, 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell with the Rev. William Miller, officiating, eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 10:30 a. m.
