William Myers, Sr

William “Herbert” Myers, Sr., 95, made a peacefully transition to his eternal home on Monday, January 8, 2018. Born June 20, 1922 in Sumter County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Mattie Williams Myers. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from St. Michael School in 1942. He was a lifelong member of Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church, where he served faithfully in many capacities until his health began to fail. Bro. Myers was a self employed farmer for many years. Later, he was employed as a mechanic for 30 years at North Main Auto Parts before retiring. He was affectionately called “Willie” by his customers. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 72 years, Ida Mae Colclough Myers; sons, George Myers, Larry (Delores) Myers, Charlie (Rebecca) Myers of Sumter, William (Louise) Myers of Philadelphia, PA; daughters, Viola Myers of the home, Gloria M. McClain of Jonesboro, GA and Rosa Myers (Harold) Nixon of Ellenwood, GA; one grandson reared in the home, SGT Rodrick D. Myers; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, in-laws and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Delores Myers, 4920 John Franklin Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, 1:00 p. m. from the Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church, 160 North Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton, Jr., pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at noon. The procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Churchyard Cemetery.
