Michael Duane Walker, affectionately known as “Big Mike”, departed this life on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Columbia. Born May 24, 1974, in Cassatt, he was the son of Johnny Council and the late Elise Blackwell. He attended the public schools of Cassatt. Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was employed in construction with D. Holland, Inc. of Camden in his earlier years. He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife of 12 years, Shannaree Portee Walker; one daughter, Anastasha Walker of Ocala, FLA; two brothers, Carl (Yolanda) Blackwell of Lugoff and Marvin (Zasha) Walker of Chattanooga, TN; one sister, Hope Walker of Columbia; one aunt, Maggie Fowler of Cassatt; one uncle, Willie Williams of Camden; father and mother-in-law, Theodore and Earnestine Portee, Jr. of Rembert; two granddaughters; thirteen nieces; seven nephews; host of other relatives, and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 20 Executive Circle, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 12, 2017, 2:30 p. m., from the Greater Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 609 Miller Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Hodge, pastor, Pastor Michael Clea, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p. m. Funeral procession will leave from the home at 1:45 p. m. Burial will be in the Greater Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
