Sarah Lee Williams Wilson, 94, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born November 28, 1922, in Richland County, she was the oldest of six children of Mack and Corine Lowman Williams. Sarah was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. Sarah attended Stoney Hill and Webber Elementary Schools, Eastover, before moving to Columbia, and attending Booker T. Washington High School from the 8th - 12th grades. After high school she moved to Sumter to attend Morris College, where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education. While at Morris, Sarah met the love of her life. After a long courtship, Sarah and Harry were married in June of 1948 in Hopkins and settled in Sumter. They were married for 67 years. After graduating from college, Sarah taught elementary school in Horry County and Seneca. Sarah then worked as a teacher at Winn Elementary School in Sumter before she and Harry started their family. Sarah joined St. James United Methodist Church and was a faithful member. She was actively involved in the life and the work of the church as a member of the United Methodist Women where she held various positions. Her precious memories will be cherished by her children: Harry (Gale) Wilson, Jr. of Carson, CA, Clement C.A. (Joye) Wilson of Sumter, Winfred Wilson of Columbia, Sheibra Wilson (Harold) James of Sumter, Alonzo (Laurie) Wilson of Manassas, VA and Bryce (Sherlyn) Wilson of Columbia; ten grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; a brother, Reverend John C. (Jeanette) Williams and sisters, Ernestine Dawkins and Edna (David) Thompson; a loving and devoted niece, Zenobia Owens and nephew, Prince Willis, Jr.; three sisters-in-law; two godchildren; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, 1054 Dover Circle, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, 2:30 p. m. from the St. James United Methodist Church, 720 Broad Street, Sumter, with Rev. Cheryl G. Johnson, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p. m. The procession will leave from the home at 1:50 p. m. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park.
