Sammie J. Butler, 70, entered eternal rest on Friday, October 27, 2017, at his home. Born June 9, 1947, in Sumter County, he was the son of Nathaniel Butler and the late Margaret Gregg Butler. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At a very young age, he joined St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was employed at Santee Print Inc. for many years before retiring. He leaves to cherish his memories: his father, Nathaniel Butler; four daughters, Vickie Butler, Gretchen McCoy and Monque Rock and Dorothy (Ronnie) Wells; three sons, Chris Rock, Levern and Jerome Scarborough; four sisters, Thelma B. Davis, Nita D. Butler, Deloris S. Reynolds and Lisa (Timothy) McBride; three brothers, Alexander (Deloris) Butler, Charles (Sharon) Butler, Albert (Ann) Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, 11 a. m., from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Robert Earl Galloway, officiating, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his father, 610 East Liberty Street, Sumter. The Procession will leave from the home of his father at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be in the St. Mark United Methodist Church Cemetery.
