Ruby Caretha Wilson, 78,was called from labor to reward on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Marion County Medical Center, Marion.
Born February 23, 1931, in Mayesville (Sumter County), she was the sixth child born to the late Hugh and Lula B. Hampton Wilson. She attended the public schools of Lee and Sumter Counties. She had a love for sports and was a good basketball player.
Ruby became a Christian at an early age and joined Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church USA in St. Charles, where she remained a member until her death. Ruby was a member of the Senior Choir as long as her health allowed her.
Ruby’s work experience included secretary for Dentist McDonald, a nurse’s aide at Community Hospital and a nanny for Lawyer Robert Shapiro.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: two sisters, Ruth W. Little of Tuscaloosa, ALA and Edna Lee Herrington of Sumter; a special niece, Rev. Lula J. Gary of Sumter; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Wilson, Jr. and Charles S. Wilson; three sisters, Carrie L. Eaddy, Addie Stowers, and Mary T. Wilson.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from the Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church, USA, St. Charles Road, St. Charles, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough, officiating, eulogist.
The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Rev. Lula J. Gary, 1036 Porter Street, Sumter, and at the home of her sister, Mrs. Edna Herrington, 559 Bell Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon.
The Funeral procession will leave from the home of her niece at 12:30 p. m.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be friends of the family.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church Yard Cemetery, St. Charles.
