Clayton Plowden, Sr., 61, took flight from this world of turmoil and pain and fell into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born September 18, 1955, in Lee County, he was the son of the late William T. and Flossie Briggs Plowden. At an early age, he joined Unionville A M E Church. He received his education in the public schools of Lee County. For many years he worked as a roofer for Roof Company in Sumter before his health began to fail. “Bill”, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, leaves to cherish his memories; one son, Clayton (Latarsha) Plowden, Jr. and step children, Marcus, Jennifer, Robert, all of Sumter; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; his brothers, Roosevelt Plowden, Nathaniel Plowden and Douglass (Cynthia) Plowden, all of Maryland; his sisters, Rosa M. Singletary, Martha (James) Vickers, Mary (Richard) Hammond, all of Ft. Pierce, FLA, Jannie Edwards, Beatrice Plowden and Mable (James) Spann, all of Mayesville; niece, Juanita McGainey and nephew, Wardell (Cynthia) Plowden that were reared in the home; one aunt, Bessie Wilson of Mayesville; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 3 p m from the Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Alvin Webb, pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his son, 405 Dogwood Drive, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 2 p m. The procession will leave 2:20 p m from the home. Burial will be in the Unionville A. M. E. Church Cemetery.
