Mrs. Dora Phillips Sinkler, born April 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Mr. William Phillips and Mrs. Florie Brunson Phillips Sumpter entered into eternal rest, July 9, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey, Sumter, SC after a brief illness. She was united into holy matrimony to the late Johnny Sinkler, to this union three children were born, She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School, Sumter, SC, where she was involved in many activities. Converted at an early age she became a devout member of the Bethel AME Church, Sumter, SC, where she continued to serve until her health declined. She served faithfully on the Stewardess Board, Pastor Aide Ministry, Blanche Burgess Women’s Missionary Society, Senior Usher Ministry and Director of Youth Ushers. She was employed at the Hampton Nursing Home, Sumter, SC, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service. After retiring she donated years of service as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Sumter, SC. Mrs. Sinkler enjoyed visiting the sick and giving words of encouragement. She also enjoyed attending the Sumter Senior Center on Tuesday and Thursday, where she participated in the devotional service regularly. She made many friends and acquaintances during her tenure there. Mrs. Sinkler, the last surviving sibling was preceded in death by Jippy Brunson, Susan Phillips, Ada P. Mack, Mary P. Hammond and Calvin Phillips. Loving memories to be cherished by her three children, John Phillips, Columbia, SC, James Leroy (Kathy) Sinkler, Sumter, SC and Dora Ann Sinkler Evans, Mauldin, SC; six grandchildren, Jenea C. Phillips, James D. (Ronishia) Sinkler, Jonathan C. Phillips, Kevin R. (Danielle) Sinkler, Jolita E. Phillips, and Carlos J. Evans; two great grandchildren, Isaiah V. Phillips-Burris and Angelica M. McCauley; two sister-in-laws, Sara White and Phyllis (Ashmore) Lee, Sumter, SC; one brother-in-law, Leroy (Dorothy) Sinkler, Sumter, SC; a devoted niece, raised within the home, Margaret Phillips, Memphis, TN; special friends of the family, Traci Harris, Columbia, SC, Catherine J. Morant, Sumter, SC , Viola Davis, Sumter, SC; and Ruby Frink a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11am from the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 South Harvin Street, Sumter, SC with the Rev. Marion H. Newton, Pastor, Rev. Davie Brown, Eulogist, assisted by the Rev. James E. Speed, Sr. Presiding, Rev. Gregory J. Jackson, Sr. and Rev. Eric W. Jackson. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 903 Twin Lakes Drive, Sumter, SC. The procession will leave the home at 10:15 Friday morning. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery 10:00 Monday morning, July 17, 2017.
