Edward David Porter, 90, departed this earthly life on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born on March 27, 1927, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late David and Anna Anderson Porter. Edward was reared in Antioch United Methodist Church. In 1965 he moved his family to Bridgeport, CT, where he became a faithful member of Russel Temple Methodist Church. Upon his return to Sumter in 1989, he rejoined Antioch United Methodist Church and became a trustee and treasurer. Edward was employed by Williams Furniture in Sumter. While residing in Bridgeport, CT, he was employed with Raybestos, Inc. and retired after over 25 years of services. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Pretto; daughters, Barbara (Rev. William) Baker, Millicent (Theodore) McCray, and Eddie Jean (Frank) Jenkins, all of Sumter; an adopted daughter, Carol (Eugene) Williams and an adopted son, Alfonso (Linda) Albert; eleven grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of life services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 - 2:00 p m, from the St. Mark United Methodist Church, 1093 Oswego Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Geneva Stafford, pastor; the Rev. Raymond F. Cook, Jr., officiating, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2645 Goldeneye Ridge, Idlewild, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 p m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 1:20 p m. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cainís Mill Road, Sumter.
