Raymond Cook, Sr., 83, departed this life at his residence on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Born January 18, 1934 , in Lee County, he was the son of the late Frank and Mamie Cook. He attended the public schools of Lee County and was a graduate of Dennis High School. He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church, where he served with the United Methodist Men. He retired from Godly Auction in Darlington. Raymond was one of the original members of the Legendry Golden Five Gospel Singers of Sumter and made many recordings including: Jesus is a Rock, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, Poor Broken Heart, Have Thine Own Way, Ole Time Religion, Have Faith in God, and Do What the Lord Say Do. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Jessie Mae Cook; two sons, Pastor Raymond F. Cook, Jr. (Patricia), Rodney Cook (Jennifer); five grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Homegoing Celebration services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 – 11:00 a. m. from the New Haven United Methodist Church, 3159 Red Hill Road, Bishopville with the Rev. Federa Herrington Boyd, pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 264 Lightwood Knot Road, Dalzell. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the New Haven United Methodist Church Cemetery.
