Earl "Bo" Champagne, 51, husband of Jackie Marie Jennings Champagne, departed this life on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Born June 23, 1958, in Sumter County, he was a son of Lou Emma Champagne Williams. "Bo", as he was affectionately called, was raised by the late Robert and Rosa Lee Champagne.
Earl was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1977 graduate of Maywood High School. He was employed at Exide Battery Corporation for 18 years; Covington Credit Corporation for 10 years; and Credit Central Finance Company for one year.
At an early age Earl joined Antioch United Methodist Church, but later joined Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church, Sumter.
In addition to his loving wife, he leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Lou Emma Champagne Williams of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Jacqueline (Bennie) Johnson of Jacksonville, FLA, Kathy Hill of Atlanta, GA, Delores Champagne, Niecy, Veronica, and Tammy Williams, all of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Isaac (Everlina) Champagne, Eugene (Ophelia) Champagne, and Abraham (Alice) Champagne, all of Sumter, Timothy Champagne of Columbia; a devoted mother-in-law, Lela Surles of Sumter; three brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; two special grandnephews reared by Earl and Jackie, Devante Singleton and Zurie Anderson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mamie Champagne Richardson, two brothers, Robert Champagne, Jr. and Robert Paul Williams, Jr., a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 from the Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church, 200 Watkins Street, Sumter, with Bishop W. T. English, pastor, eulogist.
The family will receive friends at the family home 305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter.
The procession will leave the family home at 2:30 p.m.
Floral Bearers will be nieces and Maywood High School, Class of 1977 classmates.
Pall Bearers will be nephews and Maywood High School, Class of 1977 classmates.
Burial will be in the Bishop W. T. English Memorial Park, Sumter.
